This comprehensive workshop has been designed to provide a toolkit of techniques to assist applicants in preparing for job interviews for roles within the Australian Public Service.

Whether a first-time applicant or someone experienced with this process this workshop focuses on providing participants with the knowledge and skills required to confidently present information about their skills and experience at interview for maximum impact.

Our trainers are all highly experienced with extensive backgrounds in the public sector and specialise in recruitment and selection process training.

Learning outcomes

  • understand the different recruitment and selection requirements under a merit-based process;
  • first impressions – leading with a professional image, body language, confidence;
  • understanding how to develop responses and answer behaviourally based questions, develop an example matrix;
  • how to confidently talk about your strengths;
  • apply strategies to overcome nerves;
  • interview scenario role play with feedback in a friendly, supported environment to improve your presentation and personal power at interview;
  • how to professionally close the interview.

  • Applying for a job in the APS
  • After your application has been submitted
  • The interview process – varying formats and assessments, includes telephone and video conference skills
  • First impressions – making them count
  • The ‘STAR’ technique
  • Behavioural and hypothetical questions
  • Responding to questions and developing an example matrix, includes practical component
  • Preparing for the interview and gaining confidence
  • How to close the interview and take the opportunity to highlight any other attributes

Recommended audience: APS role candidates – anyone from a first time applicant to those requiring a refresh of their interview techniques and the opportunity to practice
